Inland, a red flag warning has been issued across the northern Central Valley and into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. During a Red Flag Warning, weather conditions can allow fires to start easier with “potential for rapid spread of fire.

High winds, higher than average temperatures, and low relative humidity converge to create an environment in which fires start quickly and spread rapidly.

As the region stares down another dry summer, check the below checklist and keep it somewhere accessible to help with future evacuation packing.

I like to think of myself as a journalist for the everyman. Journalism has become a craft practiced largely by the urban elite. It’s time to take it back. I have been an Emerald Triangle resident since 2006 and this is year ten in Mendocino County. Please, email me at matthewplafever@gmail.com if you know a story that needs to be told.
