Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicate a traffic accident on Highway 1 near Rockport left a single vehicle, its driver, and a dog at the bottom of a cliff.

Initial reports came in at approximately 6:55 p.m. and described a silver pickup having gone off Highway 1.

The reporting party relayed to dispatch that the driver is “outside of the vehicle” and has a dog in her possession. An air ambulance has been requested to respond to the incident.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 7:23 p.m.: The Incident Commander is reporting that no occupants were located at the scene. First responders will survey the roads near the location in search of any potential occupants walking away from the accident. The air ambulance was canceled as a result of this finding.
