Mendocino County Residents Take to the Streets in the Wake of Roe v. Wade Being Overturned

The United States is reeling after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade yesterday nearly a half-century after the landmark case established the constitutional protection for access to abortions.

The medical procedure has become a defining litmus test in America’s culture war. Pro-life advocates argue the procedure is akin to murder while those that are pro-choice argue access to the procedure represents women’s bodily autonomy.

Residents in Ukiah, Fort Bragg, and Willits gathered yesterday and continue today to decry the decision as an attack on women’s reproductive rights. Many bore signs inscribed with slogans that communicated their condemnation of the Supreme Court’s decision: “forced birth=violence”, “reproductive rights=human rights” and “guns have more rights than women do”.

Jim Wood, Mendocino County’s representative in the California State Assembly, described the overturning of Roe v. Wade as “a very dark day in America.” He expressed concern that the Supreme Courts’ decision, “eviscerates that federal protection and tragically opens up the possibility that other rights will be challenged in the future.”

In a Facebook post, Jared Huffman, Mendocino County’s representative in the United States House of Representatives said, the Supreme Court was “overturning decades of constitutional protection for women’s reproductive rights and allowing religious extremists in over a dozen states to ban abortion.”

  1. you like abortion???
lead by example and do what your mama did not do,
your only a few years out of the birth canal. …abort yourselves.
following your logic what’s the difference??

      • pure logic there spoken there.

“i think of a man and remove all common sense and accountability” from some stupid hollywood movie

    • When LITERALLY anyone can post comments it is not surprising to see a slurry of comments like “angry lesbos,” “low educated angry lesbisns,” a random anti-vaccine rant?… and of course, all from male identified user names.

      The bloodlust is sick.

      • Yep, lots of angry males. Strange that males are so angry about women being angry about an issue that applies only to Women!

  2. Those kids look pretty young to be thinking about making those “choices” with their body. I see sexually grooming children is alive and well in the baby killer club.

    • Did you know, the youngest person to ever give birth was 5 years old? Did you know that 1.6% of children between the ages of 12 and 17 are victims of rape? That’s 16 for every thousand. The average age for a girl to begin menstrual is 12. So let’s shoot for the low end of the spectrum on that statistic and say that out of the 16, 3 become pregnant. You’re telling me that 3 million little girls who were forced into becoming pregnant deserve to be forced to carry the pregnancy to term and give birth to their rapists babies?

    • Luis, men need to stop raping little girls! And getting them pregnant! Where are the protests for that?Where are those signs? Abortion covers the sins of the rapists, is that what you’re saying Luis? Rape needs to stop.

  3. Abortion should NEVER be used for birth control. It’s cruel and senseless murder. And totally unacceptable for general use.

The womb is a sacred place meant to protect precious GOD GIVEN LIFE, not a TOMB for the life within you.

Abortion grieves me. You wouldn’t rip the limbs off a live baby kitten and toss it in a bucket to die would you? Then don’t do it to a precious human baby life. Get your tubes tied or keep your legs closed. Put on some clothes and cover your bodies.
