The following is a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol:
On June 27, 2022, at approximately 1826 hours, the driver of a black Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on US 101, south of West Road. For reasons unknown, the driver of the Toyota Prius made an unsafe turning movement by crossing through the center median of US 101. The Toyota Prius continued through the center median and into the southbound lanes of US 101. After entering the southbound lanes of US 101, the Toyota Prius was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound on US 101. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Toyota Prius sustained fatal injuries and the passenger of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for major injuries. Whether the driver of the Toyota Prius was impaired at the time of the collision is unknown at this time.
