Mendocino and Northern Sonoma County residents this morning are reporting a noticeable smoky haze and smell permeating the region.
This morning we spoke with National Weather Service meteorologist Josh Wood at the Eureka office and confirmed our region is now in the path of the Six River Lightning Complex Fire’s drift smoke.
Wood told us the smoke could drift as far south as Santa Rosa during the daytime, pushed towards the earth by high-pressure systems. At night, the smoke will begin to drift eastward but will likely remain trapped within inland valleys.
Wood also noticed that the drift smoke is mingling with the marine layer in the area of Fort Bragg and the broader Mendocino County coast.

Round Valley is pretty socked in. No ridges visible. It’s too bad it’ll be smoky for the Blackberry Festival, it’s been so clear and lovely up until the past couple days. Still, God knows we’ve had worse.
Very smoky throughout the Santa Rosa valley and out to the River area west. Strong smoke smell. Couldn’t even see St. Helena today.
