[UPDATE 8:35 p.m.] Structures Threatened, Evacuations Requested as New Fire Breaks Out in Lower Lake

Smoke rising from a new fire by Clear Lake. [Screenshot from AlertWildfire]The Point Fire broke out about 5:45 p.m. off of Panoramic Road to the west of Lower Lake off of Clear Lake in Lake County. According to a Cal Fire copter circling overhead at 6 p.m., the Fire is already five to seven acres and threatening multiple structures. Evacuations have been requested.

The fire is spotting. However, multiple tankers and an air attack are overhead already. Additional tankers are requested.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: According to the Incident Commander speaking over the scanner, the fire is now estimated to be 25 acres. While no structures are currently on fire, he asked for more evacuations–these on Black Oak Drive.

UPDATE 6:34 p.m.: “We’ve got multiple spots,” reported the overhead plane at 6:33 p.m.

UPDATE 6:40 p.m.: Stay abreast of the latest evacuation orders and warnings at ZoneHaven. As of now, here’s the latest map.

UPDATE 6:43 p.m.: Cal Fire LNU tweeted one minute ago, “UPDATE – Fire is approximately 25 acres, and 0% contained. Evacuations are being being put in place by Lake County Sheriffs. If driving in the area use caution and give way to emergency vehicles.”

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: The Incident Commander is requesting back up from Mendocino Cal Fire.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m.: Carl Euken is live on Facebook and WatchDuty From the fire.

UPDATE 7:12 p.m.: Smoke from the fire is becoming less dense. Firefighters are sounding more encouraging. “Your fire is starting to look pretty good,” the Incident Commander said. He believes that some tankers will be released soon. The estimated acreage of the fire has been reduced to between 15 to 20 acres.

UPDATE 7:33 p.m.: FIRIS has mapped the fire at 14 acres. The video gives a good look at the fire from above.

UPDATE 8:06 p.m.: According to a tweet from Cal Fire, “Fire is approximately 15 acres, and 20% contained. Evacuations in place.”

UPDATE 8:35 p.m.: Rep. Mike Thompson tweeted that according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, “Evac Warning is lifted for the area west of Anderson Road. All evacuation orders remain in effect. Fire forward progress is stopped.”
