On August 18, 2022 at approximately 1645 hours, CHP Clear Lake units responded to a two vehicle crash located on SR-20 west of SR-29 in the vicinity of Bachelor Valley Road, an unincorporated area of Lake County. Upon arrival on scene, Officers discovered two vehicles involved, a Volvo tractor trailer combination (V-2) and a Ford Ranger pick-up truck (V-1). As a result of the crash, all three occupants of V-1 sustained major injuries, including one fatality. It initially appears as if V-1 was traveling eastbound on SR-20, and for unknown reasons crossed over the center line. As V-1 crossed over the center line, it traveled into the westbound lane of traffic. As V-1 traveled into the westbound lane, it collided with the front of V-2. Following the crash, two occupants of V-1 where transported via air ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to be treated for major injuries.

Caltrans responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control. SR-20 was closed for approximately 3 hours as a result of this crash. Scotts Valley Road was used as a detour route until all lanes of SR-20 re-opened at approximately 2010 hours.

The crash is still under investigation by CHP Clear Lake.
