On November 8th, approximately 60% of voters in Mendocino County approved Measure O, adopting a permanent ¼ cent sales tax for the County Library system. The measure was put on the ballot through a successful citizens’ initiative petition drive. The funds will be used to maintain and improve the services and collections at the library branches and forty percent of the funding will be allocated to be used for upgrading and expanding branch facilities.

“We are thrilled that the residents of Mendocino County value their Library enough to pass Measure O,” says County Librarian Deb Fader Samson. “Guaranteed funding will ensure continued services, updated collections, and continued excellent programming, as well as the ability to implement capital improvement projects such as replacing roofs, carpets, painting, and expansions.”

In 2011 voters approved Measure A which provided a 1/8 cent sales tax allowing for increased hours, collections, and programs but was insufficient to support the many deferred capital improvement projects. The Library Advisory Board and County Librarian will be working on a plan to allocate the Measure O funding equitably throughout the County and the Library will continue to enrich our communities with a wide variety of services and resources for all ages.
