This weekend, local 4H clubs, veterans, and community members gathered at the Russian River Cemetary along Ukiah’s Low Gap Road to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America. By the end of the gathering, 1,200 wreaths were placed on the graves of local veterans to honor their service and sacrifice.

Redwood Valley/Calpella’s 4H club joined forces with Ukiah’s Shamrock 4-H club to host the event which began at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Despite the morning cold, dozens of volunteers turned out to participate in the ceremony.

In the midst of winter, “during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season,” the Wreaths Across America organization says there is no better time to honor the men and women who served in America’s armed forces.
