Hoplandites! In anticipation of the upcoming weather system, Mendocino County’s Office of Emergency Services and the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians partnered to provide residents a big ol’ pile of free sand and a whole lotta sandbags to fortify their property from floodwaters.

The sandbag station is located at the intersection of Highway 101 and State Route 175 underneath the Shokawah Casino sign?.

Mendocino County Sheriff Matt Kendall told us the county sought a location out of the historical flood zone and the Hopland Tribe readily stepped in to help. “As usual, when we seek help from our tribal partners, they come up with solutions.??”

For the rest of Mendocino County residents, sandbag stations can also be found at the following locations:

  • Friedman’s Home Improvement in Ukiah
  • Redwood Valley Fire Station
  • The Willits Justice Center located at 125 E Commercial Street in Willits
  • Laytonville Fire Station
  • Fort Bragg, Behind the Police Station
