Going on two weeks now, Mendocino County has taken on a dull gray. Residents’ feet have been in a perpetual soggy state. Perma-puddles smatter our daily walks. A world of storm and darkness has situated itself overhead and there is little to be done but wait it out.
As Robert Hunter, the lyricist for the Grateful Dead wrote, “Once in a while, you get shown the light In the strangest of places if you look at it right“.
Bradley Beck took a nighttime stroll along Lake Mendocino and caught the clouds breaking, the moon peaking through, and the soft light shining down on the newly recharged waters of the local landmark.
The hills effused moonlight and storm. The boat dock was still and illuminated. The quiet, motionless waters mirrored the cumulus clouds swirling overhead.
For a moment, Beck glimpsed the world after the atmospheric rivers, of clear skies and full moons and lake trips. His photograph reminds us that storms come and go, that gloom is temporary, and clear skies are waiting for their chance to shine down once again.
