A big rig has overturned on San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge closing both north and southbound traffic.
As of 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening, Highway 101 is closed in both directions as first responders clear the road. A tweet from the California Highway Patrol Marin account indicates the accident occurred in the northbound lane
The bridge is shutting down to allow personnel the room to get the big rig upright. CHP reminds travelers that high winds are reported in the area and high-profile vehicles need to avoid the area.
As of publication, there is no estimated time of re-opening.
UPDATE 8:15 p.m.: CHP Marin has announced the Golden Gate Bridge has reopened in both directions.
I was on the VA bus and felt those winds. You don’t want an empty box or house trailer on those type of winds
