On February 7th, 2023, at about 12:30 A.M., an intoxicated 64-year-old male from Ukiah, was brought into our custody for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Refuse Disposal in State Water, and a Violation of Parole. The arrestee was on Parole for Failure to register as a Sex Registrant. The arrestee was brought into the Jail’s intake room where he was evaluated by our inhouse medical staff. Our medical staff took the arrestee’s vital signs and cleared the arrestee to enter the facility. The arrestee was housed in the Jail’s Sobering Cell where the arrestee was monitored for a minimum of 4 times per hour.

At about 6 A.M., Corrections staff were checking on the arrestee housed in the Sobering Cell, the sole occupant of the cell.  Corrections staff did not get a response from the inmate and summoned our in house medical staff.  Staff checked the arrestee for a pulse, and they were unable to find one.  Staff started resuscitation measures and called for an ambulance to come to the Jail. When the fire and ambulance staff arrive to the Jail, they assisted the Jail staff with life saving measures until death was pronounced at approximately 06:32 A.M.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Bureau was called to investigate the cause of death.

  1. Wouldn’t be the first time someone mysteriously died in the mendocino county jail.I personally know 2 people that the mendocino county jail has killed/let die. When does it end..when will the jail be held accountable for the shit that do..from faulty police work to faulty police officers..how many people have to die.Why is it feel safer to not call the cops..they are suppose to protect and serve not collect and kill us.Shame on mendcino county for allowing such poor handling of its civilans.

    • Mysteriously! Really? Only Heather believes that a lifestyle of drugs & alcohol leads to longevity. Don’t give your diet away Heather.

    • Heather I totally agree with you it’s a bunch of bullshit and nobody Ever gets in trouble it’s just a another day in Mendocino county

    • Wow this is me again only there’s two of us that call ourselves me and I am not the one that thinks it’s OK or that drug people or drug people just die all the sudden I will post a different letter after my me

  2. Drunk and drugged people can have severe and sudden withdrawals,. Every 4 hours may not be enough for a person with underlying health problems. This is unpredictable and more frequent checks are important. As a woke person (better than asleep) despite the fantasy of another poster I am not sorry a predator is gone. However, if one is going to have a sober cell then it needs a more proactive staff to monitor.

  3. Having spent time in the “sober cell” aka the drunk tank (i was young once) they don’t check on you every 4 hours! & that was before smart phones & social media. So I doubt they can be bothered to check at all now. Sounded like a bad guy, so I won’t mourn the loss, but these asshole cops get paid to do a job. So do it before someone who doesn’t deserve to die from your lack of care, dies!

    • Actually someone who did not deserve to die already did – the one-year-old son of Sally Arellano. Sally was held in the -er- “sobering cell” (drunk tank) even though she was not drunk. Checking 4 times an hour but they never even noticed she was in jail for “domestic violence” not drunkenness. She was held there overnight while her children were being “cared for” (under orders by sheriff’s deputies) by a known felon who was supposed to be in drug rehab but had walked away and ended up in Arellano’s hotel room, where she was isolated with her two children, for Covid. While she was illegally held in jail overnight (for a public, apparently heated dispute with said felon), the children were abandoned (allegedly by said felon) by the railroad tracks. How is it that these very attentive workers, checking her 4 times an hour, never noticed she was not drunk?

  4. Poor offender…..shouldn’t have been disposing of his crap in a waterway…. criminals always do stupid stuff. Kinda along same lines if people who know they have warrants continue to drive a vehicle with expired reg or taillights/headlights out.
Regarding death if he I s a true s e x offender and not just a guy who “mooned” or a 18 year old dating a 16 year old I say good riddance.
If they don’t have cameras and visual contact every minute.. they do need to fix that

    • I’d like to apply to that have you ever noticed when they do bad things to people they always bring up any kind of dirt they can about that person that way in some peoples eyes you already hate them but you need to think amen

  5. 💐 What was his NAME?

📖 Let him who is WITHOUT sin cast the first stone. Nobody knows the details of the situation that got this man his charges.

I am pretty sure none of y’all is without sin. If you are sinless then you should be walking on water next to Jesus Christ.

A man lost his life. Be decent about it and have some respect. Wouldn’t it be something if he was so sorrowful and broken over his sin and failures that he ends up in Heaven and y’all judgy people don’t?

    Something to consider.

Condolences to this HUman and his loved ones. 💐♥️🙏

    • God created man in his own image?…this is his will, his work, right? An omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God creates & knows all, right? He should do better! I find it ironic how you cast judgment on those who judge! We judge & we sin & commit atrocities on each other & do all manners of bad. And, yes, we are capable of great compassion & empathy & love as well. We are created in the image of God? This is it! This is his work! Dont judge or preach to us. Take your complaints up with the almighty.

      • WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE GOOD PEOPLE. Free will. I think we all have room for improvement and can make better choices and be more forgiving as a society ESPECIALLY to those who are repentant.

None of us are so righteous that we should go around wagging our fingers in everyone’s faces.

We ought to look in the mirror first and see if we are worthy to sit on the judgement seat.

Unfortunately, there’s none righteous, no not one…

    • Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Jesus would need to accept all Americans, or he has to move out of the US! Civil War might prove that for y’all.

      Get educated please.

      • Um, yeah…I think Local was expressing their freedom to religious beliefs & I was expressing my displeasure with it. Both exercising our 1st A rights. I think the war for those rights already took place, buddy! But you can fact check me on that. Get educated
