On the afternoon of Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Lake County authorities were dispatched to reports of a possible suspicious death alongside Highway 53 north of Clearlake. Upon arrival, a dead body was found inside what appeared to be a broken down RV.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lauren Berlinn told us the deceased was located in the “living area of the RV.” Officials conducted an autopsy yesterday and found no signs of foul play. They await a toxicology report for the cause of death.

As of yesterday afternoon, investigators were still attempting to inform the next of kin. The identity is being withheld until the notification.

Originally reported on a Facebook page called On the Scanner Lake County, multiple community members described seeing the RV parked along the roadway for at least a week. Many saw a man and a dog inside the vehicle or in the immediate area before the body was discovered.

In fact, Berlinn confirmed the California Highway Patrol had tagged the RV just hours before the body was discovered suggesting that as the officer wrote the abandoned vehicle notice, the dead body lay silently inside.

  1. Was there a dog found also? Atleast the CHP gave him a week to enjoy that parking spot. Hope he didn’t starve to death and they saved the dog too. If there was one.

  2. If the CHP had checked on him earlier he might be still alive. At least they let him die in peace. Thanks CHP for letting him park there for the last week of his life. Hopefully it was peaceful for him.
