The City of Ukiah is seeking applications from artists from any discipline for a potential Artist Residency Program, funded by the Upstate California Creative Corps grant program,  that will generate public art throughout the community over a one-year span.

The City is preparing an application for these funds, but must first select artists to include in the application. If successful, funding will provide the selected artists a one-year art residency. The theme for the grant program is Community Cohesion and Empowerment and selected artists will be asked to work as part of an Art Residency Collaborative with a goal of producing individual works for public spaces using any medium that amplify one another and the theme.

According to Mayor Mari Rodin, “The Upstate California Creative Corps program offers the opportunity  for us to beautify our City and provide paid work for artists while addressing issues of social exclusion  and disparities in opportunities for marginalized communities.”

Although compensation for the selected residents will not be known until an award is made, it is hoped to be in the $15-$20,000 range per resident for the year; the number of artists selected will be based on the amount of funding awarded. The residency program will run from May 22, 2023 – May 21, 2024.

This call for artists is open to all artists, 18 years of age or older, who live or work in the Upstate Region of the California Creative Corps representing nineteen counties to the north and east of Mendocino  County with preference given to applicants based on their proximity to the City of Ukiah. The selection committee for Upstate California Creative Corps will be looking for artists representing various demographics and artistic disciplines. Storytellers or spoken word artists who can incorporate intergenerational learning into their art and to speak to the community about the project are encouraged to apply. All projects will be approved through the City of Ukiah’s Public Art Policy.

The Upstate California Creative Corps grant program, to be administered by the California Arts Council,  will award through a competitive application process a total of $60 million to local governments from regions throughout the state for artist residencies. The funding is made possible by a statewide  Creative Corps pilot program recommended by the Governor’s economic and jobs recovery task force.

Applications are available by contacting the City of Ukiah’s Director of Community Services, Neil Davis  at ndavis@cityofukiah.com or on the City’s Community Services page at https://cityofukiah.com/community-services/

    ?? Gotta love that rainbow!
It’s the symbol of God’s covenant promise to us….Read Genesis 9:13-17
    New King James Version

?13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the ?rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 15 and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 The ?rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”??

    • I guess your guy broke his promise!! “The waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” I seem to recall a few hurricanes, tsunamis & floods that would prove otherwise. I guess you can’t take everything literally when you’re reading a work of fiction.

        • Every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is LORD. Now or later. You choose? But it will happen. Believe in gravity. Or not? Step off a cliff you will fall. Regardless of your opinion.

        • Not taking away anything from anyone. I’ve read dozens of sermons, Bible verses & calls for prayer on completely unrelated articles from Local. And that’s fine! So is a little push back. Also, this felt low key Westboro. To each their own. Exercise your religious liberty. I’ll excercise my right to pick it apart occasionally.

      • ?? Lol…God didn’t break His promise ???????????The verse is referring to the global flood back when Noah built the Ark. God set this bow in the sky then as a promise that He will never flood the ENTIRE earth at once again to cleanse EVIL. No, He’s coming by ????????FIRE next time! We are living in pure EVIL times. I say REPENT, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand! That’s what Jesus Christ said too.

@EVEN YOU- was SPOT ON! Repent or perish! You WILL bow your knee to your Creator. Even the pompous and the arrogant. Please repent before it’s too late for you. When California breaks off into the ocean it will sink, not become a tropical island ??. people get ready Jesus IS coming.

Oh, and there’s a good movie coming to a theater near you called COME OUT IN JESUS NAME! You should definitely go see it!

?? ?????Gotta love God’s ? ???????Y’all haven’t seen anything yet. You should study Bible prophecy and then watch or read THE NEWS.

        ?God Bless!

        • Ah, yes, the human interpretation of his devine words. Never fails to be pliable enough to fit a narrative.

Planetary catastrophes have happened throughout all time, wiping out all or most life, with no sign of God or Jesus or whatever it is. Remember dinosaurs? Cities have been swallowed by the ocean. Continents split apart. Pangaea? Africa is splitting in 2 as we speak. Yet the 4 horsemen have remained dormant.

California may fall into the ocean & the planet engulfed by fire. But not because Jesus is coming. Its because the planet & space can be violent. Its happened before & will happen again & again long after we’re gone.

I’ll lean on the scientific theories of, Graham Hancock, & other archeologists & scientists before I’ll take the word of some bronze age book, written by uneducated men. Men whom thought the earth was flat, & hand no understanding of any kind of science at all.

          • So do you believe Jesus Christ came in the flesh?

It seems you know some scripture…you know exactly where I’m going with this question.

            • No, I dont believe he did. If anything I believe he was probably a religious zealot. We’ve had plenty of those over the centuries. Except today we call them cult leaders.

I do know some scripture. Spent the first 14 years of my life being force fed the “good” book. I knew at a very young age that it was all too fantastical & absolutely ridiculous. I still can’t believe how free thinking adults can invest their whole lives into such faitytales. The passing years have only strengthened my resolve on the subject.

As for repentance, I have nothing to repent for. Certainly not to any deity. I have only to apologize & ask for forgiveness from people in my life that I may have hurt or wronged.

You & I are probably more a like than different. Love, kindness, thankfulness, appreciation etc etc for the things & people in our lives that we have & enjoy. It’s not a fear of God or an impending apocalypse & the promise of rapture that I feel those things. Its just in my nature.

In the end I wish you well & we can agree to disagree on all things God/Jesus. I don’t think of you as a bad person & I assure you I’m not either. Although far from perfect. I promise not to add my 2 cent comments to your Bible thump anymore. Takes up too much time & energy anyways.

  2. Failed to mention themes must be ones that ca creative corps. Supports..
The California Creative Corps is an outreach and engagement campaign designed to increase awareness around environmental issues such as water and energy conservation, climate mitigation, and emergency preparedness, relief, and recovery; as well as civic engagement, social justice and public health.
Just another way to pay to get agenda pushed….should city be involved in what could amount to up to 100,000’s of dollars some of which city will get

  3. ???????
Westbrook? Yes I believe the Bible is the word of God. Yes, I believe!!!! ?

I ??? glorify God and Jesus Christ! I shout! I get excited! I’m amazed! ??? I love rainbows! Only a magnificent Creator could do this (and yes He’s THE BEST SCIENTIST EVER! He created the Heavens AND the Earth, you and me, and all the fullness herein.

I get excited when I see animals and flowers and babies, and yes…RAINBOWS! ????

  4. Oh my god! Enough about jeesus, let’s paint the rail! I think a cupid next to the ‘I love my butt slut’ mural would be really endearing.

    • Yes lets dismiss Jesus get him out of our schools. Our government our lives so we can be as sick and perverted as we want! We can each one decide whats right. Until it degrades to complete anarchy the one with the biggest weapon wins. Molest rape kill Its PROGRESSIVE you know

  5. Please just go check out some Isaiah Salvidor videos. ??????

I’m not judging anyone, just sharing the same gospel that caused ME to repent of MY sin.
    ????
    Goodnight & God Bless!?

    • I would love to see some art that dsnt glorify homosexuality. Or immigrants that sneak i against the laws of our land. Maybe something honest and not perverted ?

  6. I love art but I really would like to see a cleaner city not a mishmash of subjectively “amazing artworks”. Our city always looks dirty and run down.
