At about 9:30 this morning, a 20-year-old worker on trails near the Usal campground on the northern Mendocino County coastline collapsed, according to a report over the scanner captured by Danilla Sands of the Mendocino Action News.

Scanner traffic around 11 a.m. alerted us to a search and rescue to retrieve the patient. By 11:15 a.m., the search and rescue team located the patient. They are now attempting to load the hypothermic patient into the ATV and take them back to medical facilities.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 11:42 a.m.: According to the Incident Commander speaking over the scanner to dispatch, a California Conservation Crew is “walking the patient down.” The patient, the IC told dispatch, is “obviously hypothermic” and “in and out of consciousness.”

  1. Good ol CCC, using underprivileged kids for manual labor in the woods in all weather without proper clothing with no possibility of escape. Classic
