Law enforcement reportedly held a subject at gunpoint and deployed pepper spray this evening during a foot pursuit in the Covelo area.

Scanner traffic beginning around 11:00 p.m. indicated officers was attempting to create a perimeter around one or two subjects somewhere in the area of Highway 162 and Mendocino Pass Road.

The subjects reportedly were uncooperative and combative and fled on foot prompting calls for backup and holding a subject at gunpoint.

An officer on scene reported a suspect was swinging a fiberglass pole at deputies as they converged on her in the middle of what they described as a large blackberry thicket.

Requests from backup were canceled after the officers reported they deployed pepper spray.

Medics have been requested to the intersection of Highway 162 and Mendocino Pass Road to address any health issues associated with the pepper spray.
