64-Year-Old Lakeport Man Killed in Cow Mountain Crash

The following is a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol Clear Lake Office. This has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On September 23, 2023, at approximately 1039 hours, California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the Clear Lake Area responded to a vehicle collision on Trail 17, near Scotts Creek Road, in the Cow Mountain Recreation area.  A preliminary investigation indicates Party No. 1 was driving his Toyota sport utility vehicle (SUV) northbound on Trail 17, near Scotts Creek Road, at an unknown speed.  For reasons still being investigated, the Toyota traveled off the trail, and overturned down an embankment an unknown number of times.  The driver was ejected while the vehicle overturned down the embankment.  The driver sustained fatal injuries

as a result of the collision.  

Alcohol and/or drug use is not suspected in this collision.

This collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Clear Lake Area.
