The “ne-kut-konk-nshong” good fire on the ground, cultural burn at Southern Humboldt Community Park, is happening Thursday, October 19th.

This will be the first in a long-ling time culturally focused burn. We have the Kinest’e (Wailaki) people initiating the burn, along with a number of other Native people and groups. Local fire personnel and apparatus will also be present.

This cultural fire will be a five acre hillside, along the southern end of the Community Park.

We offer many thanks to all the people and organizations that have made this possible. This burn is the first of many more culturally relevant forest management projects planned for the ancestral homelands of the Kinest’e (Wailaki) people.
