[UPDATE: Forward Progress Stopped] Firefighters Working Escaped Burn on the East Side of the Ukiah Valley

The column of smoke as seen from the AlertCalifornia Fire Cameras

Firefighters are on the scene of an escaped burn pile on the east side of the Ukiah Valley this afternoon.

Initial scanner traffic began around 1:00 p.m. when multiple reports came in of a column of smoke building in the area south of Cow Mountain.

Firefighters pinpointed the location to be in the area of the 2100 block of Twining Road. When the Incident Commander arrived on the scene, he estimated the fire had grown to between one-half to one acre of dry grass growing at a slow rate of spread.

As of 1:29 p.m., more firefighting resources were still working to get to the property and officials were determining the appropriate resources to extinguish the fire.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: The Incident Commander reported the fire’s forward progress is stopped.
