One person is dead this morning after a traffic collision at the top of the Willits Grade portion of Highway 101.

A sedan collided with a truck around 4:04 a.m. this morning approximately 1.5 miles south of Willits in an area described as the ‘top of the ridge.’

In the aftermath of the collision, reports from the scene indicate a “male subject was lying on the roadway” in the area of CAL FIRE’s Howard Forest Station.

As soon as emergency personnel arrived on the scene and checked for injuries, they reported a “confirmed 1144”, meaning a deceased individual

The two vehicles reportedly came to rest in the roadway and Caltrans was deployed to the scene to close the southbound #2 lane of Highway 101.

As of 7:02 a.m., the Caltrans Quickmap does not show any traffic impediment or lane closures still affecting the area.
