On 11/11/23 at approximately 0400 hours, Driver 1 whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on US101 northbound, just north of the Ridgewood Scale when reasons under investigation, traveled left across the southbound lanes and struck the dirt embankment. The Toyota continued north before stopping within the southbound #2 lane facing north. At this time, Driver #2 was driving a blue Subaru wagon on US101 southbound in the #2 lane. The visibility at the time was poor due to fog and drizzle. At some point, Driver 1 exited the vehicle, while Driver 2 was swerving to avoid a collision with the Toyota. As a result, Driver I was struck at this time and sustained fatal injuries. CHP Officer Adams #20886 is investigating the crash. DUI was not believed to be a factor in this collision.
