Happy New Year Mendocino County!

As the calendar resets itself, MendoFever wants to take a moment to look back on our most popular stories of 2023. We use our website’s analytic data to see which articles have been read the most.

There is a recurring theme in this year’s top ten stories: tragedy.

Why would that be?

One answer is the old newsroom adage “If it bleeds, it leads”—a dynamic compounded in the digital space.

Another answer, and one I believe is closer to the truth, is the fact that those who call Mendocino County their home are well acquainted with the struggles of the human condition. Fatal traffic accidents, overdoses, and deaths of despair are all too common. As a newsroom, MendoFever believes in shining a light on the darkness. The toughest topics are often the most important to cover. According to these numbers, the community agrees.
