Join artists and their hosts for an evening of art, music and refreshments as you stroll from one venue to the next; each showcasing local art and artistry. Held in Historic Downtown Ukiah on the first Friday of each month, the First Friday Art Walk is the perfect way to relax your body, mind and soul. This enjoyable evening begins at 5:00 p.m. and promises to delight your senses; all while enjoying the company of others.
Bona Marketplace, 116 W Standley Street, Ukiah
For the month of February Bona Marketplace will be hosting a combined show with photographer Deborah Briggs and painter Susan Blackwelder and their works “For the Love of Animals”.
Grace Hudson Museum, 431 S Main Street, Ukiah
Make the Grace Hudson Museum part of your Ukiah First Friday Art Walk. This will be the last opportunity to see our special exhibition, Printed & Stitched, on a First Friday, when Museum admission is free all day and evening. Originally scheduled to run through March 17, we have decided to close it one month earlier on February 18 so that we can address some important maintenance needs in our temporary gallery space. Printed & Stitched explores the overlap between hand-pulled printmaking and the art quilt. From 5:00 to 7:30 PM, enjoy the beautiful and soothing sounds of Suni Robin on the harp. Also, take some time to discover or get reacquainted with our core galleries featuring Grace Hudson’s artwork, exquisite Pomo basketry, and Hudson-Carpenter family history. Light refreshments will be served.

The Ukiah Branch Library staff invites the community to join us for Art Walk Ukiah on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 5 – 7 p.m. Come enjoy a quilt exhibit from the Grapevine Quilters Guild.This group of quilt-makers is dedicated to spreading warmth and beauty throughout Mendocino County by giving away over 300 quilts per year to those in need. This exhibit will be on display at the Ukiah Branch Library from Jan. 5, 2024, through Feb. 24, 2024. The Branch will host sweet tunes by folk duo Twining Time. There will be an in-person hands-on creative arts program. Enjoy a book sale by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library as you browse the art walk. This exhibit is free to the public, open to all ages, and sponsored by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library.

Tim Poma is no stranger to the Ukiah Art Walk scene. Tim will be showcasing brand new art as well as some of your favorites and prints for sale. Tim S. Poma is best known for his bright and colorful thrown and dripped paintings of landscapes, poppies, Volkswagens and abstract objects painted with latex house paint. Self-taught, Poma began painting as means of releasing emotions, specifically disappointment and frustration. Through his exploratory out bust of passion and a desire to create, Poma began throwing paint feverishly to alleviate his sadness, and in the process he found a joy he did not know existed. Poma has been painting ever since 2012 in the small Northern California town called Ukiah. Poma’s methods of creation include: dripping, smearing, throwing and finger-painting on canvas to get his desired look. He oftentimes uses tools such as a palette knife or a paint stir-stick to help with the creation of a given painting, and rarely uses paintbrushes but is not opposed. Although Poma was never formally trained as an artist, he has had several influential art teachers in his life who helped inspire his path as an artist. From his Color and Composition teacher at Mendocino College, Paula Grey, to his Ceramics teacher Doug Browe, each left a lasting impression on him that still inspires him today.

“Men At Work” February 2024, Each month Art Center Ukiah puts out a call looking for artists of all stripes to show their work with us on a variety of themes, and for the most part those who answer that call are women. ACU put out a personal invitation to a number of extremely talented male artists in our community. And turn out they did… over 15 men answered the call.
Participating artists will represent the whole gamut of materials and techniques. Among them are photographers Bob Taylor, Bruce Haanstra, Tom Liden and Elliot Little; painters Chat Ko, Tom Montesonti, Marvin Schenck and JJ Plante; woodworkers Jon Wolfard and John Richards; computer artist Tobin Keller; ceramic sculptor Wesley Wright; assemblage artists Ricco Harden and Spencer Brewer; and mixed media artists Denver Tuttle and Red Wolf. Opening Friday February 2, 5- 8pm on display thru February 27, 2024

February “Casing the Joint” Assemblage Students of Esther Siegel and Spencer Brewer. Students from an assemblage class recently taught by Esther Siegel and Spencer Brewer will show their work in the front windows of the Corner Gallery for the month of February. This well-known Redwood Valley couple have been creating and showing their own art for years, but teaching classes is a new experience. “This was an entirely unknown process for many of the students. Most of them didn’t have an idea where to start or what they were going to do. They were all pleasantly surprised that they could use objects to make art. Twenty seven students of all ages and some couples working together as team created some remarkable works of art.
Young Artist Wall continues with Solana Rubino, stain glass artist, Polly Palecek,new paintings featured on the pony wall space sponsored by to the MCAA. The First Friday opening of “Casing the Joint” will be on February 2 from 5-8 pm. Live music will be provided throughout the evening by “Obie” aka Michael Oberg. www.cornergallery.com
Deep Valley Arts Collective and MEDIUM Art Gallery, 522 E Perkins Street, Ukiah
The Deep Valley Arts Collective is pleased to announce Part 2 of “Big Works,” opening at MEDIUM Art Gallery in Ukiah and on display from February 2nd through February 17, 2024. Due to the volume of submissions for Big Works, the exhibition has been broken into two parts. Artists were asked to submit works in all mediums, with the theme of Big Works. This theme has endless possibilities, with the artist’s imagination being the only limiting factor in creating the artwork. In this exhibition, artists were allowed to showcase their skills and creativity with bold and impactful art, with size being the only limiting factor.
Opening Reception: First Friday Art Walk: Friday, February 2nd, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Music by DJ Yeah, Yeah. Beer, wine, and light refreshments available. Come support the arts in our community!
