As per a press release from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Lacey Mosher, 38, of Santa Rosa, has been arrested after allegedly attacking two deputies who came to save her as she struggled in the waters of the Russian River.

The incident unfolded on February 25 around 4:20 PM when dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a child being swept down the Russian River from Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville. The river, swollen from recent rains, presented challenging conditions with rapids and debris, compounded by the frigid water.

Sergeant Gary Lawson, the first deputy on the scene, observed a person struggling in the middle of the river near Fife Creek’s entry point. Sgt. Lawson, without hesitation, entered the water after removing his gear. Deputy Anthony Powers, arriving later, provided a life vest, and Sgt. Lawson reached the distressed individual, later identified as Lacey Mosher. However, the situation took a dangerous turn as Mosher resisted rescue, pushing Sgt. Lawson underwater during the struggle.

The deputies grappled with Mosher in the swift water, with Deputy Cody McCready joining in the rescue efforts. Despite the perilous conditions, the Sonoma County Fire District firefighters, arriving by boat, successfully rescued Mosher first due to the boat’s limited size. They then returned to retrieve the deputies. Both deputies, Sgt. Lawson and Deputy McCready, were treated for exposure and released at the scene.

Mosher, transported to a local hospital, continued to assault first responders and medical personnel. The press release from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office indicates Mosher was arrested for battery on a peace officer, misdemeanor being under the influence of drugs, and felony violation of probation. She is held without bail due to bail violation.

Sheriff Eddie Engram commended the heroic efforts of Sgt. Lawson and Deputy McCready, highlighting their commitment to service over self. The incident underscored the collaborative response from partner agencies, including the Sonoma County Fire District and CHP – Santa Rosa.

  1. One of the first things you learn in water rescue training is that it is very common for a person in a drowning situation to fight against rescuers by trying to climb on top of them, pushing themselves up and the rescuer under the water. We are trained to approach a person drowning cautiously and inform them what we will do. Sometimes, that is still not enough to convince them to allow you to help them. You must also be ready to attack them by punching them in the nose or groin. I have little doubt that the woman was not attempting to hit the officers but was in total panic mode, and “Fight or Flight” mode kicked in with her trying to survive. She climbed on top, and as the officers were pushed under, they tried to fight her to get air; they ended up in a battle for their lives. She did what was expected, and they need more training.

    • She was high on drugs and and combative. Read the story. She’s charged with felony violation of probation. The officers that have to risk their lives for these nut cases are to be praised?

    • Yes someone in panic mode will try to climb onto a person pushing them under and “fight” rescue. But this was not exactely case here, maybe alittle in water. But she continued to be combative to emts…deputies on shore as well as hospital staff. Long after water exit.

What happened to the child? Any information on the original reason they arrived on the call. I don’t doubt the mother fought them when she was likely trying to save her child’s life.

    • The fearless and brave deputy who was clearly in a frenzied rescue and survival mode more than likely touched one of her breast and the crazy fucking feminist bitch went apeshit.

  3. My hats off to law enforcement. You do an amazing job each and every day and have to deal with this type of human garbage. Dealing with crazy drug addled mentally ill degenerates, a byproduct of celebrated drug culture here in norcal is a thankless job.

  4. It’s quite common for a drowning person to climb on top of their rescuer. This is just more cop- propaganda, and will be used by the cops as an excuse why they need more money or something.
