A collision between a motorist and an electric bicycle rider in Ukiah on March 31, 2024 left one person hospitalized with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol announced in a press release yesterday.

The incident occurred around 4:43 p.m. when 20-year-old Chloe Proctor, was traveling southbound on Sanford Ranch Road on an electric bicycle, estimated to be moving at approximately 20 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Approaching the intersection with SR-222 (Talmage Road), Proctor reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign, continuing into the westbound lane of SR-222.

Meanwhile, 71-year-old Mark Hale, was driving his Cadillac Escalade westbound on Talmage Road at an estimated speed of 35-40 mph, east of Sanford Ranch Road. Hale attempted to avoid the collision by veering left, but was unable to do so, resulting in the front portion of his vehicle striking Proctor. After the crash, Hale remained at the scene and promptly contacted emergency services.

Proctor was transported by Ukiah Valley Fire Authority to the Ukiah Airport, where Reach Air Ambulance Services airlifted her to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and authorities have stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
