Mendocino County law enforcement converged on a Willits residence this morning, Saturday, May 11, 2024, reportedly detaining four subjects, two of whom fled on foot before their arrest.
The precipitating circumstances are unclear at this time. Given eyewitness reports of three sheriff’s deputies drawing their rifles during the incident, it suggests that law enforcement had concerns about either their own safety or public safety.
The same eyewitness told us officers began to converge on the residence located near the intersection of Pine Street and Mill Street around 7:30 this morning. As of 10:00 a.m., there were reportedly still law enforcement personnel on the scene.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Quincy Cromer told us he is amassing the facts to publish a press release on the circumstances. He did confirm that multiple subjects were detained and offered that the activity in Willits this morning was related to an incident that occurred in Laytonville around midnight last night.
