The solar storm bearing down on Earth has surely made for some beautiful skies.

In an act of crowdsourced reporting only possible in our modern era, we asked readers to share their photographs of the Aurora Borealis so we could document the historical happening.

We bring you the multitude of colors and shimmers and star shine that lit up Mendocino County skies this weekend.

MendoFever’s Favorite of the Bunch Award goes to Round Valley resident Elacia Redhawk featured at the top of this article. Her photo not only caught the vivid blues, purples, and yellows of the Aurora Borealis, but she also captured the wonder we felt staring up at them with the silhouettes of on-lookers in the frame. Nice work!

  1. The pictures I took on top of Cow Mountain Friday night were much different from what was visible to the naked eye. My iPhone 15 Pro Max camera picks up wavelengths that aren’t visible in person. What I could actually see was mostly green and only for a brief moment I could see purple very high up above the green. But the vertical shafts of light were absolutely visible but green. It was amazing either way. I’ve been waiting my whole life to see the aurora. It finally happened. And I didn’t have to travel to Alaska of Iceland.
