    • Ableist hatful person I see. Fort Bragg North Carolina did it… Why would you want your town named after the worst Confederate soldier in the rebellion?

    • It’s quite obvious you want nothing to do with those who tended this land and gave up their lives to greedy White People.
I have a good amount of DNA here on the Best Coast.
And it includes that of many of the Native Nations, not only along the coast. But the DNA I speak of, also went east along the Canadian/US border.
I won’t embarrass you by asking any questions….you kind of summed it all up in Your tiny brain pan.
Since you really have nothing worth talking about….simply move along.

  1. This is utterly ridiculous. If the residents born and raised here were truly supportive of a name change, it would have happened already. The Fort Bragg Forever movement has far more support and is only growing. How about the non-locals and transplants pushing for a name change devote their time and energy to something of benefit to the community? For example, you could pick up the dog excrement and trash that constantly litter our streets and neighborhoods, start a medical transport service free of charge for those without transportation, make healthy meals to feed the hungry, volunteer at one of the many local nonprofits that struggle to serve their clientele etc. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP with the name change BS. It is a waste of time and energy. Move on to a community that wants to be overhauled. Also, just south of Town Hall where this “education” is to happen, is the Guest House Museum – maybe they should go check that out to get themselves educated about Fort Bragg

    • I was also born and raised here and I support the name change… We know the history and that is WHY we want the named changed… As more youth comes of age they will agree because they haven’t been indoctrinated… This land had a name before the army came here to illegally round up and police the indigenous people… We know the history and you have no argument. We are the people building community… What are you doing.

    • Calling people who oppose your stance communists is laughable..
This is democracy in action… If Fort Bragg, NC can do it so can we… And we will… Dinosaurs will die.

    • No one here has mentioned race but you which makes me question your ethics, and if we want to talk about erasure of history then tell me, what was this land named before the Army set up a fort to oppress the indigenous population? Guaranteed you don’t know because that history was erased… This movement is bringing light to a forgotten history that was literally erased. Also you must not know history at all Mao was a communist and Stalin was a Fascist which are both completely different from socialism… So keep fighting to end socialism and when you don’t get a social security check when your old or when are no more public schools, post offices or fire departments remember that you defeated those horrible socialist principles.

      • In case you haven’t noticed we already have a socialist government. One that would please the long-departed Benito Mussolini. Every day one reads about our local, state and federal governments setting wages, promulgating endless regulations, funding projects like the bullet train and BART in CA that favors the political class but has no utility otherwise. And, of course, a government that weaponizes lawfare, enforces censorship via third parties, uses Executive Orders that bypass Congress and defy Scotus, are all emblematic of a socialist/fascist government. Could it be that you all are complaining because you don’t like the consequences of actual, not theoretical, socialism?

  2. Race baiters sowing seeds of democrat double speak, socialist philosophy and history removal.
    Stalin and Mao’s footsteps.

      • You are erasing history yourself when you fail to acknowledge that in the 20th century, communism and fascism were responsible for up to 100million deaths according to scholars. I suggest that you deal with that issue before trivializing the name change issue because it denotes racism to you but no one else.

  3. As a local who was born and raised in Fort Bragg I highly recommend that everyone attends this meeting. U’I is a powerhouse in our community and helped countless people including my own family and is always there for those in need and Women with Bows is an amazing organization that helps build and empower communities all over. Educate, Agitate, Organize and build a better community for our children than our predecessors have… The oppositions argument is empowering status quo, complacency and a false narrative of history that disregards the Original Peoples of this Land… Will is all we need to make change and there’s a power in Naming that can reframe our communities purpose. Please come if you can.

    • “Evermore” quoth The Raven. Thanks for your calm and positive response. I hope all will check out for themselves:

No one has anything to fear. A change of name, most likely restoring our town to a name used here before the genocidal Fort, will only make our town more welcoming and end our honoring of Bragg, an enslaver and traitor, as well.

      • It’s not fear but an unwillingness to bend the knee to your belief that racism is rampant in Fort Bragg and can be overcome by changing the name. We have all moved beyond racism and mistreatment of the Native American population. You are saying that we haven’t and that we are just not enlightened enough to notice. In case you haven’t notice, people have more pressing issues to deal with and you aren’t helping with those.

        • Where did anyone other than you say “racism is rampant in Ft Bragg”?

I’m also local and a supporter of the name change. Let’s honor the true and full history of this land.

    • Then I suggest you start at the top and work your way down and be a little ‘inclusive’. Blindly honoring a barbaric Spanish Viceroy by allowing the name, “Mendocino” to exist for all these decades is why I’m not buying it.

      Exploitation of African slaves? Check!
Eradication of indigenous tribes and cultures? Check!
      Decimation of native population/Genocide? Check!
      War Crimes? Check!
      Environmental Imperialism/Plundering of resources? Check!

  5. Ugh. This nonsense again. The cost of changing the name alone on all city vehicles etc would be in the millions. I don’t care that somebody is butthurt about the name. It’s been fine for a hundred plus years. Get over it. And as a person of indigenous heritage, we should be concentrating on helping the youth, or helping to solve all the rapes against our women…not wasting time on this!

    • Sorry, but you don’t get to speak for ‘the town and the people who live hear’. Just speak for yourself, like “I really don’t like hiding history by changing our town’s name.” Or, “the name Fort Bragg suits me just fine”.

  6. Gun fire at Safeway, drug busts, meth and fentanyl available all over town, Mexican gangsters flashing their idiot signs. Yep, some people have nothing better to do than mess with the alphabet. How about Wokeland, Methatopia or Marx Town? That should work for the politically virtuous with their heads in hole.

  7. Why don’t you guys memorialize our Cherokee relatives who fought on the Confederate side. There were whole units of them. Those people going on about history being erased that everyone is quick to call racist are on to something there. I better not hear about anyone from the Sherwood tribe go say squat about that towns name either. Not because a e Sherwood was a pioneer either, because there’s more to changing a name than putting up a little sign. I’m not sure what but people have died thinking help was going to show up when it didn’t. At least they don’t have to watch our people creating problems where they don’t need to and ignoring actual ones.
