Suspect in Shooting of 2-Year-Old Clearlake Boy Captured by Authorities

The following is a press release from the Clearlake Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Fernando Lugo-Garcia [Mugshot from the County of Lake Booking Logs]

On May 15, 2024, at about 9:30 am, 31-year-old Fernando Lugo-Garcia was taken into custody by Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Detectives with the Violent Crime Investigations Unit and Property Crime/Narcotics Unit for an active Lake County arrest warrant. The warrant was for murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and several firearms-related offenses, including being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The circumstances that led to the arrest warrant for Lugo-Garcia stemmed from a report of a shooting that occurred during a party in the 14000 block of Uhl Avenue in Clearlake on March 23, 2024, in which a 2-year-old male died. Clearlake Police Officers and later Detectives responded to the scene, which Lugo Garcia had already fled.

During the investigation, probable cause to believe that Lugo-Garcia was the suspect in the shooting was developed, and that he was living in the Santa Rosa area. Detectives from the Clearlake Police Department coordinated with Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Detectives who were familiar with Lugo-Garcia from previous contacts.

Through investigative leads, Lugo-Garcia’s location was determined, and he was taken into custody by Sonoma Sheriff’s Office Detectives. Detectives from the Clearlake Police Department responded to Sonoma County to interview Lugo-Garcia and then transported him to the Lake County Jail.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the child from this tragic event.

  1. Prayers and condolences DONT cut it. If I were the family of this child I would sue Joe Biden and the US government for allowing these scumbags into the country. There is supposed to be a process immigrants are supposed to follow like background checks. This current administration is doing NOTHING to keep us safe.

      • WTF, some people have zero reading comprehension and I just love how everything is Joe Biden’s fault…I feel like I live in a time where you either have brain worms or you don’t and the ones that do sure show themselves to the rest of us. It’s so exhausting…this person maybe a legal citizen yet Helen is just gonna throw out her obvious prejudice with no hard facts…

    • Helen , Native Americans of California often have Mexican names, because this used to be Mexico. I hope this prompts you to look at all articles you read in the future regarding people with Mexican names differently, in that you just never know where people are from! This is America after all. I myself have a Mexican last name but am white, because I’m married to someone whose predecesors came here from Mexico 2 generations ago. Our daughter is brown and our son is white.
This guy is a sick asswhole regardless!! Tootles!!

  2. Very sad story, poor little man. The life was stolen from this family and all people can talk about is politics… What a world. More than just that child lost their life…
