Vegetation Fire Ignites Near Gualala, Firefighting Units Deployed

A vegetation fire sparked near the Mendocino Coast town of Gualala this afternoon, prompting a response from air and ground firefighting units.

Scanner reports around 5:00 p.m. indicated the blaze was located near the 45300 block of Pacific Woods Road.

Upon arrival, the Incident Commander reported that the fire was burning at a moderate rate of spread through brush and had reached a size of approximately one-quarter acre. After assessing the nature of the fire, a firefighting helicopter was requested to respond. Around 5:28 p.m., firefighters on scene relayed they had successfully laid hose around the fire indicating they were making progress in their efforts to contain the blaze.
