The Ukiah Airport Day, held this past weekend, provided a thrilling experience for local residents and visitors. On June 1st, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event attracted crowds with an array of exciting attractions and activities.

Among the standout features were:

  • Warbirds: Attendees had the rare opportunity to see historic military aircraft up close.
  • United States Coast Guard: The twin-engine Eurocopter MH-65 Dolphin helicopter’s impressive fly-in was a highlight, showcasing the Coast Guard’s capabilities.
  • Cal Fire and Cal Star: Demonstrations by these essential services offered insights into firefighting and emergency medical responses.
  • RC Plane Demos: Remote-controlled plane demonstrations captivated the audience with their intricate aerial maneuvers.
  • Family Fun: Families enjoyed a bounce house for the kids, a selection of food trucks serving delicious meals, and numerous craft vendors displaying their unique creations.

Ukiah Airport Day was a resounding success, providing a perfect blend of aviation excitement and family-friendly fun. The event brought the community together, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating next year’s festivities.

Our photographer, Peter Armstrong, was on site to capture the event for readers to enjoy.

  1. It has amazed me for years that local events like this one are not talked about before hand so that folks can attend. UDJ and now MR.

    • Yeah, seriously!!!

Matt, how exactly are people who are not “intimately involved” in the local aviation (or low rider or nearly any other local “special event”) scene supposed to know an event like this is happening beforehand?

My magic 8ball didn’t mention this event to me.

Having grown up near an AFB with yearly public events & airshows AND having great respect for our first responder Aviators, I would’ve loved to have attended this event

      • Ok…I guess I should keep that in mind in the extremely unlikely event that I should ever need to promote a public event.

But, how did you and Peter, the photographer, learn of the event?

Because, I would like to know where I need to look in order to have a chance to attend next time, rather than rest on the thin hope that they’ll send you a press release, as that’ll more likely end with many of us grouching about missing it again next year.

    • Reading these comments and wondering if somehow this online journalist has become the de facto information officer for the city of Ukiah?
Seems like everyone has forgotten who promotes these events, likely the people putting the event on?
Swinging at this guy seems a little easier than taking the complaints to the mayor or city managers office. And that’s probably why this is happening.

  2. I live right next to the airport and didn’t know about it or hear anything about it.. would’ve loved to have been there.

  3. This was a nice day at the airport. Kids got to climb in helicopters and fire fighting vehicles. Huge smiles. Just a very pleasant day. Looking forward to next year.
