[UPDATE: Forward Progress Stopped] Wildfire in Northwest Napa County Prompts Evacuations, Threatens Structures

A wildfire burning in the rural Napa County town of Deer Park has swelled to 25-30 acres with the possibility of growing to 100 acres in size in the afternoon heat and evacuations are underway.

The fire ignited around 1:45 p.m. in the area of Crystal Springs Road and Incident Command is reporting that the fire has grown at a “dangerous rate of spread” fueled by dry grass and oak woodland. There are reportedly multiple areas where powerlines are down because of the fire.

At least four firefighting aircraft are above the incident attempting to mitigate the flames.

Scanner traffic indicates emergency personnel are reportedly facilitating evacuations at the north fork of Crystal Springs Road.

UPDATE 3:05 p.m.: Scanner traffic indicates the fire has grown to 57 acres in size and additional resources have been dispatched to the incident. PG&E has successfully de-energized the lines in the area.


UPDATE 3:29 p.m.: Scanner traffic indicates a two firefighters working the Crystal Fire have required medical attention. One has suffered “heat injuries” requiring medical evacuation from the fire zone and another is reporting “general weakness”.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m. Scanner traffic indicates that now a total of four fire personnel require medical treatment after fighting the Crystal Fire in brutally hot conditions of  103°F.

The Incident Commander specified that one of the patients is a fire captain.


From Cal Fire LNU at 4:15 p.m.: “Update: The fire is currently reported at 60 acres with 0 percent containment. We currently have 16 Engines, 2 Dozers, 3 Hand crews, 5 Water Tenders, 3 Air Tankers, 2 Helicopters assigned to the fire with additional resources requested.”


UPDATE 5:08 p.m.: LNU tweets, “Fire is approximately 60 acres, and 50% contained. The forward progress has been stopped. Our firefighters continue to work hard strengthening containment lines and increase the overall containment of this fire. “
