Former Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff Sentenced to Life for 2007 Santa Rosa Rape

The following is a press release issued by the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office:

Ricky Marion Bostic [Mugshot from the Baltimore County Police Department]

Defendant Ricky Marion Bostic, 55 years old of Sonoma County, was sentenced earlier today by the Honorable Laura Passaglia to serve 15 years to life in state prison after having previously plead “no contest” to charges of felony assault with intent to rape, and rape of an intoxicated person.

District Attorney Rodriguez stated, “This was a predatory attack on an incredibly vulnerable victim. We are hopeful this conviction and sentence finally provides some closure for the victim and her family.”

The charges resulted from a 2007 rape investigation conducted by the Santa Rosa Police Department after the victim reported being sexually assaulted after leaving Club Seven in downtown Santa Rosa. The investigation showed that the defendant had watched as people left the club, and followed the victim to her home, eventually entering and raping her. After the victim woke up in the morning, she immediately realized she had been assaulted and reported the incident to law enforcement. Although her assailant was unknown, a full forensic examination was conducted, including the collection of DNA evidence. Years passed before the DNA taken from the victim was matched to the defendant. Although Bostic moved away from Sonoma County many years ago, at the time of the assault he was employed as deputy with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to the Sonoma County conviction, Bostic has been convicted and sentenced for separate rape convictions in the state of Maryland for which he was sentenced to serve 50 years to life. To date, Sonoma County law enforcement has not discovered any additional victims that match Bostic’s DNA profile.

After the prosecutor’s comments on sentencing, the court acknowledged the trauma and pain inflicted on the victim, her family, and the community, and stated that the defendant deserved the sentence he received and more.

  1. Dominator culture is seriously so gross. Why out of all the stupid social justice movements have women still not been seen? How is partnership ever going to return?

Rape should be considered attempted murder, as bearing a child can and does kill women.

  2. This is the way a prosecution and sentencing for rape by a law enforcement officer should be handled. Thank you Sonoma County DA and Court.
Mendocino County still has victims that never got justice who still suffer from the sexual assault they suffered by the law enforcement officer’s that still walk free. One not even charged by the Mendocino County DA. Justice acknowledged by one court while another does nothing. Disgusting to say the least.

    • Sure, a female probation officer was put on the Brady List and fired for reporting being abused by the Ukiah police chief who was her boyfriend. Oh yeah, she admitted denying it when the cops first arrived. Guess Eyster never heard of battered women’s syndrome and if she lied about not being abused then she must have been. What a jerk, on his own terms he had discretion. No chivalry with that guy.

      • I think it’s more than Battered Syndrome…

The “thin blue line” keeps most cops from speaking up about other cops. (That could’ve been her primary concern…see below). This often includes the DA’s office too, as they are also badged and sworn LEOs too.

Those who speak up are rightfully concerned about being blacklisted out of a profession that they’re HEAVILY invested in (like you mentioned with the Brady list) AND the potential for retribution (possibly leading to death) is very real in many departments.
Remember, the “fraternal order” was never intended by the boys club to include anyone but boys.

The culture needs to change now, not later.
If you can’t uphold you official oath of service as an LEO then find another line of work and/or just fuck off.

It’s far past time that bullys, abusers, and predators are totally excluded from law enforcement because they are actually criminally minded and do NOT have the community’s best interest at heart, and/or in mind.
They will destroy lives just to “get off” on the perception of access to dole out “righteous” (sic) violence on others, not to be confused with power.

  3. These “peace” & “law” enforcement offials are complete frauds! Given god power over the public they’re supposed to protect & serve & payed by us to do so, they abuse their authority & the blind trust given them. Punishment for civil servants who commit crimes against the community who pays them should be sentenced to the fullest & stripped of all assets!
