One of the major east/west thoroughfares between Mendocino and Lake Counties is closed this afternoon after a semi-truck overturned on a windy section of State Route 175 blocking both lanes.

The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicates the incident occurred at 12:44 p.m. when the semi-truck overturned and came to rest on its side blocking the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Mapping of the incident places the accident east of the Hopland Rancheria on the Mendocino County side of SR-175.

Thankfully no injuries resulted from the accident but Caltrans has initiated a hard closure of the roadway as a result of the accident.

SR-175 is notorious for getting blocked by big rigs that attempt its tight turns despite prominent signs on both ends that warn drivers to steer clear of the route.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: As per the Caltrans Quickmap, SR-175 has reopened though traffic appears to be moving slowly in the area.

  1. There needs to be like an AI camera that detects a semi truck going up that road and then deploys spikes in the road to take out his tires before they even make it up the hill.

  2. This is NOT a “big rig” as I know the term. I am thinking that you are using this sensational headline to draw readers in. I do wonder how you think you can expect anyone to believe anything you say if you do this out of thing.
