A body was recovered from the waters of Fort Bragg’s Noyo Harbor this afternoon after what appears to have been a suicide from the Noyo Bridge, according to an eyewitness account.
United States Coast Guard personnel were seen converging on the location beneath the bridge to retrieve the body. The witness also noted an abandoned bicycle on the bridge directly above the area where the body was found, along with police and medical personnel on the scene.
The Fort Bragg Police Department has been contacted for confirmation and stated that a press release with more information is forthcoming.
The Noyo Bridge, which stands 110 feet above the water, is known for being a location where several individuals have ended their lives.
The Center for Disease Control cites barriers to health care, social isolation, and high rates of adverse childhood experiences as contributing factors to the heightened risk of suicide in the rural areas of the Emerald Triangle, including Mendocino County.
