The following is a press release from the Ukiah Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
In the early morning hours of 09/20/2024, a Ukiah Police Department (UPD) Officer was dispatched to Schat’s Bakery in the 100 block of West Perkins Street in Ukiah for a report of graffiti. The officer arrived and spoke with the business owner, who showed him that a large flower planter in front of his business had been vandalized with spray paint. The business owner then pointed out several other graffiti tags on the properties of the Ukiah Brewing Company and Jax Boutique.
The suspect had been captured on video during the tagging and was immediately recognized by UPD Officers as Aldar Fragoso. At the time the graffiti was discovered, Fragoso was already in custody at the Mendocino County Jail, after being arrested by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office for a separate misdemeanor graffiti vandalism on South State Street. A UPD Officer responded to the Mendocino County Jail and rebooked Fragoso for a felony vandalism charge, with the hope that the new charge would keep him in custody pending his arraignment. At the time of this incident, Fragoso had two additional pending UPD cases for felony graffiti vandalism and was also awaiting parole through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for animal cruelty. Fragoso posted bail and was released later that day.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on 09/21/2024, a UPD Officer was on routine patrol in a marked vehicle in the 1000 block of South State Street when a bicyclist suddenly raced in front of the patrol vehicle, nearly causing an accident. The reckless bicyclist turned into the parking lot of 1104 South State Street, and the officer followed, attempting to stop the cyclist and admonish him for dangerous riding.
The bicycle rider ignored the officer’s commands to stop and continued riding through the parking lot and down into a drainage creek. The officer requested assistance, and other officers arrived to check the area.
The bicyclist was found hiding in the bushes south of Washington Avenue and identified as Aldar Fragoso. Fragoso, who had been out of custody for less than twelve hours, was found in possession of multiple cans of spray paint and permanent markers.
Fragoso was arrested for resisting arrest and possession of graffiti tools. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of 148(a)(1) PC and 594.2(a) PC. Fragoso was later released from custody on a signed promise to appear at a future date in Ukiah Superior Court.
As always, UPD’s mission is to make Ukiah as safe as possible, and we are grateful for the help we receive from the community and local business owners. Wow! Thank you law enforcement! Unfortunately, this guy was released again. It might not seem serious, but his behavior tells us that he doesn’t care if he’s caught, and will probably reoffend. He should have to clean up his graffiti.
Catch & release, over and over again.
A “signed promise” from this guy?
The whole thing seems like an exercise in futility.
How about some mandatory graffiti clean up and/or trash clean up around town?
Truly pathetic attempt at graffiti, too. It’s one thing to add some color under an overpass in San Francisco but this isn’t even an attempt at making an ugly space beautiful, it’s visual garbage. Especially annoying because Schat’s already added color to that space in the form of beautiful native plants.
According to the UPD, an officer stopped at the Chevron gas station at East Perkins Street and South Orchard Avenue around 3 a.m. May 25 when he noticed a vehicle blocking the driveway.
The driver, identified as Aldar S. Fragoso, 28, of Redwood Valley, was described as “uncooperative and exhibiting bizarre behavior,” and as having red stains on his clothing. When UPD officers reportedly saw blood on the center console of the vehicle, as well as blood on a pair of pruning shears, they became concerned for the man’s safety.
Personnel from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority then responded, as well as local ambulances and mental health case workers. MCSO deputies reported that they had contacted Fragoso earlier that day at the Ukiah Valley Athletic Club on South State Street for a reported disturbance in a locker room, and that he had a dog with him at the time.
When asked about the dog, Fragoso said he did not have one, and when tests revealed that the blood on the pruning sheers was not human blood, Fragoso was detained for further evaluation.
When a tow truck arrived to remove Fragoso’s vehicle, which was reportedly out of gas and blocking the station’s driveway, a search of the vehicle revealed a suitcase in which officers found a deceased dog. The dog was identified by MCSO deputies as the animal they saw earlier that day, and Fragoso was arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and booked into Mendocino County Jail.
Unfortunately we can no longer view booking photos. Another win for the creeps.
Plenty enough of them out there, “free” for the looking.
Perhaps the next time mr fagoso gets busted the cops should administer some permanent graffiti to his forehead as a warning to the rest of us. A deputy with zero tattoo-parlor skills could easily ink the word “menace” onto the prefrontal canvas of even this most pea-brained perp. Nice bold lettering, olde English, perhaps.
Your observation of olde English is spot on. That used to be the first popular tag font, but freeform took over. Remember, a tag on top of another tag indicates a beef ‘tween signatories. Paint them asap or more will appear.
That tag is whack
