Driver airlifted with major injuries after crashing into tree south of Ukiah

A major injury traffic collision involving a single vehicle occurred Sunday evening, September 29, 2024, south of Ukiah, requiring the medevac of the driver.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page, the crash was first reported at 7:57 p.m. when a vehicle veered off the southbound Highway 101 offramp to State Route 253 and struck a tree. Initial reports indicated possible smoke or fire, but it was later confirmed that the vehicle was not on fire.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after 8 p.m. and discovered one person trapped inside the vehicle. Crews worked quickly to assess injuries and begin extrication efforts. CHP upgraded the incident from a minor to a major injury collision at 8:11 p.m.

At 8:31 p.m., an air ambulance was en route to transport the patient for medical treatment.
