A Sonoma man fell into the ocean, got battered by rocks and waves, and lived another day

A 19-year-old fisherman was rescued by a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) helicopter after falling 15 to 20 feet off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean near Jenner on Thursday, September 26, 2024. SCSO released footage of the rescue five days ago.

As per information released by SCSO, the fisherman was in the area of Ocean Cove Campground when he fell into the cold waters enduring 15 minutes of being battered by waves and rocks. Authorities say he was pulled from the water by bystanders just before the arrival of Henry-1, the sheriff’s office helicopter.

The helicopter’s Tactical Flight Officer, an emergency medical technician, was deployed after the aircraft landed nearby. The man was stabilized using a half-back rescue device and traverse stretcher before being airlifted via a 100-foot-long line to a parking lot where emergency crews from several agencies were staged.

Rescue personnel were ready to assist at the scene. After the victim was safely airlifted, the helicopter was reconfigured for medical transport, and he was flown to a local trauma center with a paramedic providing care during the flight. The fisherman sustained major injuries as a result of the incident.

No further information on the victim’s condition was immediately available.
