A man was found dead on the morning of Saturday, November 23, 2024, after his vehicle was discovered in floodwaters near Mays Canyon Road and Highway 116, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that a bystander called dispatch at approximately 11:29 a.m. to alert authorities about a submerged vehicle in the Russian River area near the community of Guerneville. The caller believed at least one person was inside the car.

Sheriff’s deputies self-dispatched to the scene even before receiving the official call. Patrol units, along with the Sheriff’s Marine Unit, arrived alongside first responders from Sonoma County Fire and Monte Rio Fire.

Despite the swift response, crews recovered the man from the vehicle only to find that he had already succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
