The Hopland Fire Protection District announced it has received the 2024 California Statewide Specialized Equipment Radio Project Grant, enabling the purchase of six new handheld radios for its team. The grant was awarded by the California Fire Foundation and aims to enhance firefighter communication during emergencies.

The radios, now in service, are vital for coordination between firefighters, dispatchers, law enforcement, and other agencies across California. They are used during wildfires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and other incidents requiring swift response.

The district noted that the radios were first deployed during a Red-Flag Warning event in October, demonstrating their critical role in emergency operations.

In a press release, the Hopland Fire Protection District formally recognized the California Fire Foundation and its donors, stating the grant has improved resources that benefit the community, county, and state.
