A fatal head-on collision on Highway 1 along the Mendocino County coast late Thanksgiving night left two vehicles heavily damaged and resulted in the full closure of the highway in both directions for several hours.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:54 p.m. on the Caspar Creek Bridge, located in the 12300-12700 block of Highway 1. Emergency responders arrived to find both lanes completely blocked by the wreckage, prompting a full roadway closure that lasted until around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page.
Authorities found that two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in at least one fatality. Initial reports indicated that no occupants were trapped in the vehicles, but the major damage required a flatbed tow truck to remove both vehicles from the scene. Highway 1 was blocked off at the bridge to facilitate emergency response and accident investigation.
By 11:19 p.m., emergency crews had secured the scene and contacted nearby Coast Hospital for assistance in identifying those involved. Travelers were urged to use alternate routes until the highway reopened early Friday morning.
Thanks for the info, but the stock image is in really poor taste. I knew the person who was killed. We don’t need to see a bloody image of those 2 words. The title gives us the gist. Please be respectful.
In my view the letters depict the lights on the responders’ vehicles.
