A suspect has been arrested following a burglary and violent assault early Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Cloverdale Police Department.

The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on December 22, 2024, at a residence on the 40 block of Cherry Creek Road. Heriberto Guerrero Castillo, 26, of Cloverdale, unlawfully entered the home of an acquaintance and, without provocation, attacked the victim with a blunt object, police said.

A witness flagged down a Cloverdale Police officer on routine patrol, pointing out Castillo as he fled the scene on foot. Officers launched an immediate search and apprehended Castillo after a brief pursuit, the department reported.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the assault, according to the press release.

Castillo was arrested and charged with burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He was transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

The Cloverdale Police Department commended the witness for their timely report, which allowed officers to act swiftly and prevent further harm. The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
