The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of possible human remains along the coastline near the coastal town of Mendocino, officials confirmed.
Scanner traffic indicated emergency responders were dispatched around 3:44 p.m today regarding a potential water rescue or body recovery near the cliffs adjacent to Out of this World on Main Street. The Coast Guard was requested for assistance due to the challenging access, which required either a boat or rope rescue.
At 4:19 p.m., units on the beach detected a pulse and requested a medic and air support. However, by 4:34 p.m., the incident was confirmed as a coroner’s case. Authorities sought to determine whether the individual had been wearing a life jacket and if they had come from the ocean or fallen from the cliff.
MCSO’s Captain Quincy Cromer told MendoFever, “We have deputies on scene for reports of possible human remains along the coastline near Mendocino. At this point, it has been confirmed as a coroner’s case, but I do not have any additional details.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
