Law enforcement swarmed a Redwood Valley neighborhood early this morning after reports of a man firing a rifle into the air, prompting a situational awareness warning.

According to police scanner traffic, the initial call came in at 4:38 a.m., when a resident reported their neighbor on Ellen Lynn Street firing multiple shots into the air. At 4:55 a.m., dispatch received a second report of gunfire in the area. Multiple units responded, with dispatch noting that the man had recent interactions with law enforcement.

At 5:04 a.m., the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office issued an advisory: “Law enforcement is in the area of Ellen Lynn Rd/Virginia Circle in Redwood Valley investigating reports of a shooting. Please use caution, avoid the area, and report any suspicious activity.”
