A Eureka man was arrested late Thursday night after allegedly stabbing a 47-year-old Willits resident, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 10:10 p.m. to reports of a stabbing victim on the 100 block of Kawi Place, where they found the injured man and began administering medical aid while awaiting emergency responders. The victim was transported to a hospital for further treatment, and authorities found evidence at the scene indicating a violent assault had occurred, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Investigators identified the suspect as 47-year-old Jason Ryan Omholt of Eureka. Deputies later tracked Omholt to a residence on the 2600 block of Mitomkai Way in Willits, where he initially refused to come out of a bedroom but surrendered after negotiations, authorities said.

Omholt was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, resisting arrest, and an outstanding felony warrant out of Humboldt County for vehicle theft. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail with bail set at $125,000.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office credited the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Willits Police Department for their assistance in the investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office at 707-463-4086 or provide tips anonymously at 707-234-2100.
