Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered Saturday morning near Low Gap Road in Ukiah, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 9:52 a.m. to the 1800 block of Low Gap Road after members of a local nonprofit, conducting a trash cleanup, reported finding what they believed to be human remains, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Deputies searched the area and confirmed the remains were human, prompting an investigation by both the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and the Ukiah Police Department. Officials are reviewing active missing persons cases in an effort to identify the remains, according to the release.
Authorities said foul play is not suspected at this time. The coroner’s case remains open, and investigators will release further details once the remains are positively identified and next of kin are notified.
