SFGATE: Buster Posey boots youth camp from Mendocino County hunting ranch

Categories:

Last summer, I broke the news that Buster Posey had bought the legendary Six Point Ranch, a massive 4,100-acre hunting property straddling Mendocino and Lake counties. The $10.4 million deal made waves, and the community was genuinely excited to call Buster our new neighbor. With his deep love of the outdoors, many hoped he’d embrace the spirit of the land — and maybe even become part of its legacy.

That’s why it stung to learn that the Kids Outdoor Sports Camp, which had been running on the ranch for years, got the boot. The camp taught kids to fish, shoot, and care about conservation — values you’d think would resonate with someone like Posey. But when camp organizers reached out to his team, they were met with silence. No explanation, no offer to keep the tradition going. It felt like a letdown — a missed chance to connect with the community in a meaningful way.

Read about it in SFGATE.

  1. “Buster Posey is living large these days”
How wonderful now have a little dignity and show some class and set aside a few hundred acres of your big spread for the young folks or buy a seperate property and donate it to a worthy cause.

  2. I see the groups “executive director” makes just shy of $100,000 per year and they have assets of about $470,000, with a net “profit” of about $165,000 as shown in their most recent federal tax filing.

Maybe they should get busy and figure out how to continue their mission without shaming Mr Posey.

Oh yeah, their website says the fee for a few days at their basic camp is $1,350.

  3. Shooting, hunting, children…what could go wrong. With lawsuits out the wazoo in this libtard state,of course owners are reluctant to allow these types of activities. Parents and kids aren’t what they were in the fifties.

  4. He’s a famous & wealthy man on a rural property. The world is full of nefarious actors. Disclosing his purchase of the land was a big no no in my opinion. And he’s protecting himself from potential, if not probable, litigation should someone get hurt or worse.

  5. Mr. Posey would be crazy to allow a group of children on his property for just about any reason, especially kids who are going to use bows and arrows and guns. The liability exposure would be ridiculous, no matter what. The beautiful counties of northwestern California are full of places where children can learn outdoor skills. This seems to be an attempt to pressure a famous and wealthy man who has contributed a lot to our region. Sorry to see the press take the bait.

  6. Buster Posey made a great purchase and you can’t blame him for not allowing this camp to continue on his property. Huge liability for any landowner.

  7. This is a free country. It’s his property and he has every right to not do a children’s hunting camp. The liability and lawyers know how to charge awful amounts of money. A pumpkin patch liability policy for 2 weeks before Halloween is like thousand in insurance costs, in California. Can’t imagine what a kids with hunting guns liability would be? So please tell the whole story. Blame lawyers and greed. Not Mr. Posey. This article is very accusitory without merit.

  8. This isn’t a camp for underprivileged children it costs $1350 for 1 week of activities! It’s a for profit camp that has now moved to another ranch!

  9. Oh my a selfish sports star goes in deep on a personal possession and screws the locals. Big surprise because those sports stars are always so kind and helpful. Usually every sports star that gets rich starts helping little old ladies cross the road and pick the ticks off of every stray dog they find with their own solid gold tweezers. I’m so surprised that a guy who made millions catching fast balls and swinging for left field isn’t just steeped in the juice of Jesus himself. Those bats he handled were like the holy cross itself. Maybe he should hang out with Chamise Cubbison and some of that obvious sainthood she has in her loins will rub off on his junk.
