World Giraffe Day gets wild on the Mendocino Coast

Point Arena’s B Bryan Preserve, a unique African hoofstock facility, is gearing up for World Giraffe Day on Saturday, June 21, 2025 — the longest day of the year and a global celebration dedicated to the world’s tallest animal.

Created by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, World Giraffe Day raises awareness and funds to protect the roughly 117,000 giraffes left in the wild. With only one giraffe for every four elephants in Africa, the stakes have never been higher. Proceeds from B Bryan’s event support the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and Save Giraffe Now, directly aiding conservation efforts on the continent.

Visitors can enjoy giraffe feedings throughout the day at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. For just $10 per adult and $5 per child under 10 (including infants), guests get 45 minutes of up-close giraffe fun and education. Spots are limited and require advance booking at bbryanpreserve.com.

Each session kicks off with a brief discussion in the tour barn before hopping into vintage open-air Land Rovers to meet the “Giraffe Boys.” Guests feed the giraffes fresh lettuce, ask questions, and experience these gentle giants firsthand.

Five exciting activities await at every time slot:

  • Face painting — transform into a giraffe
  • Education table — explore giraffe skulls, tail hair, and their favorite foods
  • Fill giraffe toys — stuff containers with treats and watch those iconic tongues in action
  • Giraffe feeding — hand-feed lettuce to the giraffes
  • Tech recycling — drop off old electronics for Eco-Cell to recycle, helping reduce mining in sensitive African habitats

Frank and Judy Bryan’s journey to conservation began decades ago. Frank, originally from California, met Judy in Mississippi through work. After falling in love with sable antelope in West Texas in 1998, they brought some back to Judy’s family ranch, sparking the start of B Bryan Preserve. In 2004, they moved 11 animals to Point Arena, turning a hobby into a passion. Today, the preserve houses over 60 named animals and partners with the B Bryan Wildlife Foundation to support wildlife conservation. Both Frank and Judy grew up around domestic animals, and Judy’s love for Africa fuels their commitment to protecting endangered species.
