It’s an act of long-term stewardship: preserving habitat, safeguarding water, and strengthening the climate resilience of our region.” She praised the effort as years in the making and thanked partners and advocates, including Sonoma County Parks, Save the Redwoods League, Sonoma Land Trust, and the seller, Mendocino Redwoods Company.
The 1,517-acre property links protected lands from the Russian River to the Sonoma Coast, expanding Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park from 515 to over 2,000 acres. It features towering coast redwoods, open meadows, and headwaters of three key salmon streams. The acquisition creates a continuous corridor of more than 22,000 acres of protected wildlands.
